The two buildings that are still there are Zehmer and the Science building and both have been remodeled and renovated enough to pretty be new buildings all together. I can speak from personal experience having attended UVAW during the time they started doing most of the remodeling and building of Commonwealth Hall. Going from Zehmer to Commonwealth for classes was very invigorating. The new building and state of the art classrooms made for a much better learning experience. I am not 100% but I believe that the original Zehmer building no loger holds classes but offices. The classes that are held in Zehmer are in the newer wing of the building that was built in the late 80's early 90's.
All I know is when I see BAMA MAN post, it reminds me of another group of people, which reminds me of this video that applies to the Anti-Consolidation crowd very nicely. Except you have to replace "jubs" with "skoos".

I have to say I FLIPPED. After I hearing the thoughts of many friends from different communities and doing some research for myself I FLIPPED ! Not to say some of my previous statements about cost are not true. However, finding out that smaller schools educate children better, are safer, and the low income kids fare better, I FLIPPED ! I have no problem paying higher taxes for better education, It's not about the money for me. Thanks R

There's a certain point in low enrollment where student:teacher ratio is unfavorable.
A school system's budget is limited. If you dont "terminate" unneeded buildings, you have to terminate people to keep the buildings running. So to say smaller enrollment always provides better student:teacher ratio would be incorrect (and vice versa for larger schools/worse ratios).
Small School examples:
Appalachia has a student:teacher ratio of 1:13.2
Pound: 1:14.1
JJ Kelly 1:13.2
Larger School examples:
Blacksburg High School: 1:12.4 (enrollment 1200)
Virginia High: 1:12.2 (enrollment 700+)
Carroll County: 1:12.1 (enrollment 885)
